LU-FMS offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and other programs in the fields of medicine to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their careers in healthcare, as well as to support the ongoing professional development of healthcare professionals.

Doctor of Medicine degree (MD)

The program of medicine is a 7-year program (6 years in the LU faculty of medicine with first year in the LU faculty of sciences) of study at the end of which students are awarded the diploma of Doctor of Medicine (MD). This program combines basic science coursework with clinical training.

Master’s Degrees

At LU-FMS, there are two research centers offering Master’s Degrees for students:

1. The Neuroscience Research center (NRC) prepares the student to obtain:

  • University Diploma (DU) in Neuroscience: The duration of research and study is one year.
  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience: The study period is one year and is referred to as M1.
  • A university master’s degree in Neuroscience in three specializations:
    • Master of Science in Neuroimaging
    • Master of Science in Neuropsychology
    • Master of Science in Neuroscience

The duration of the study is one year after the bachelor’s degree in M1, referred to as M2.

For the award of a doctorate degree in Neuroscience, coordination is made between the center and the Doctoral School of Sciences and Technology of the Lebanese University.

The conditions for students to join this center are determined according to the following:
  1. For enrolment in the first year (M1) and (DU): Possession of a university degree or its equivalent in a major suitable for study in the field of neuroscience.
  2. For enrolment in the second year (M2): Possession of a diploma or bachelor's degree (M1) in an appropriate discipline in the field of neuroscience.

2. The Medical Research center (MRC) prepares the student to obtain, as per the Decree No. 2581 dated on 24/10/2021, a university master’s degree in medical research in three specializations:

  • Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI)
  • Master of Science in Health Administration (MHA)
  • Master of Science in Medical ethics and Bioethics

The conditions for students to join this center are determined according to the following:

  1. For enrolment in the first year (M1): Possession of a university degree or its equivalent in a healthcare-related subject area.
  2. For enrolment in the second year (M2): Possession of a diploma, medical doctor degree (MD) or bachelor's degree (M1) in an appropriate discipline in a healthcare-related subject area.

A committee comprised of instructors from each Master program assesses the courses taken by the students, and the relevant publication activities to determine whether they should be admitted to Master 1 or Master 2. The selected candidates are then reviewed and approved by the Dean.

The faculty offers several Diploma in different fields, including:

  1. Loco Regional Echo Guided Anesthesia
  2. Fundamental of Medical Research
  3. Laparoscopic Surgery
  4. Body Damage Reparation
  5. Health ethics: 11 months, Decree No. 444 dated 2017
  6. Legal Compensation for Bodily Injury: Decree No. 444 dated 2017
  7. Basics of Clinical Management of Weapon-Wounded Patients
  8. Hypertension and Cardiovascular Risks
  9. Arthroscopic Surgery: 2 years after orthopedics specialty or for orthopedics residents in PGY III, IV and V, Decree No. 888 dated 2017
  10. Obstetric & Gynecological Echography: 1 to 2 years after Obstetric Gynecology Specialty, Decree No. 1867 dated 2017
  11. IVF Fellowship Program In Vitro Fertilization Fellowship: 2 years after surgery specialty, Decree No. 1945 dated 2020.

The admission criteria for these diplomas and fellowship programs are very precise and are clearly defined in a dedicated decree.

These diplomas may not be available every year. It is advisable to inquire with the faculty to confirm current availability.
